This is a 41 (1941) Chamber dated Mauser byf built for the German Schutzstaffel SS after the contract for the P-38 was in production. The SS had their own procurement system.  This Parabellum is 9mm with a 4" (100mm) barrel that is proofed and serial numbered to the gun.  Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."  This example has all matching numbers.  (812)

This is a full rig, an all matching 41 Mauser byf with a correct black magazine, a 1941 dated holster that is serial numbered to the gun, an extra magazine, a loading tool, and a SS Belt buckle (My Honor is Called Loyalty) of the Schutzstaffel, a field issue steel belt buckle with the SS runes stamped inside.

The Waffen-SS (German for "Armed SS", literally "Weapons SS") was the combat arm of the Schutzstaffel ("Protective Squadron") or SS, an organ of the Nazi Party. The Waffen-SS saw action throughout World War II and grew from three regiments to over 38 divisions, and served alongside the Wehrmacht Heer regular army, but was never formally part of it. It was Adolf Hitler's will that the Waffen-SS never be integrated into the army: it was to remain the armed wing of the Party and to become an elite police force once the war was over.

Adolf Hitler reviewing the SS (Schutzstaffel) along with Josef "Sepp" Dietrich (right with lapel open) who was a German Waffen-SS general, an SS-Oberstgruppenführer, and one of the men closest to Adolf Hitler. For his wartime services, he was one of only 27 men to be awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.

These Lugers by Mauser were marked in the military manner with exposed serial numbers on all the parts. In early 1941 the dates were changed to two digits and the  P.08 was added on the frame.  There were both wood grips and plastic grips due to the shortage of walnut wood grips.

As part of the initiation into the SS the new volunteers held the Regimental colors and with two fingers extended on the right hand swore their oath of allegiance to Adolph Hitler.

Here we can see the early Mauser Eagle 655 proofs with the straight wings and the late Waffenamt (Ordinance) Eagle /Swastika acceptance stamp.

This Swastika was what gave collectors the sense they were the "true" Nazi guns but any of the Lugers picked up during WWII were Nazi used.

This is a very clean gun with an excellent barrel and all matching including the magazine. Note the last two digits of the serial number on the rear main axel pin.  In 1932 the Reichswehrministerium issued an order that the rear connecting pin be serial numbered to the gun which was required by order in 1933.

This Luger has been cared for over 72 years now. It is looking for a good home.  In 1932 the Reichswehrministerium issued an order that the rear connecting pin be serial numbered to the gun.  You can also see a fine examples of the fire-blued pin. (Below) you can see the craftsmanship present in the machined parts, all serial number, all matching.

This is marked with the RMZ code of the manufacturer and is dated 1940 and stamped with the SS Runes.

It is very difficult to find an all matching serial numbered gun and a matching magazine. This is a premium rig for the serious collector who demands the best in collectable Lugers.

This is a standard SS Belt Buckle started into production in 1931 for all purpose wear.

The wings of the eagle (Alder) were straight as a symbol of the   the National Socialists party with the talons holding the Swastika.

Here we have the proof markings on the back of the holster along with Waffen Amt marking in the late style with straight  wings. The holster is dated 1941 (as gun) and contains is the saddlemaker's stamp.  The four numbers on the upper right match the gun.  The holster is still soft leather, with all the stitching intact and functional.

The Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (LSSAH) founded in September 1933 was Adolf Hitler's personal Bodyguard Regiment ("Leibstandarte" ) being a somewhat archaic German expression for the personal bodyguard of a military leader).

The term SturmAbteilung originally came from the specialized assault troops used by Germany in 1918 in World War I.  Instead of a large mass assault, the SturmAbteilung were organized into small teams of a few soldiers each.

Under their popular leader Ernst , the SA grew in importance within the Nazi power structure, eventually claiming thousands of members.  Eventually Röhm grew too powerful and was imprisoned and latter killed by the SS.

The SS was formed initially as personal guards for Hilter during the rallies and travels and was soon assimilated by Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler's  as the SS organization, through the SS Führungshauptamt, literally The SS Guidance Principal Office. In the early years, membership was open to true "Aryans" only in accordance with the racial policies of the Nazi state.

When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Hermann Göring, then Prussian minister of the interior, detached the political and espionage units from the regular Prussian police, filled their ranks with thousands of Nazis, and, on April 26, 1933, reorganized them under his personal command as the Gestapo. Simultaneously, Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS, the Nazi paramilitary corps, together with his aide Reinhardt Heydrich, similarly reorganized the police of Bavaria and the remaining German states. Himmler was given command over Göring’s Gestapo in April 1934 and on June 17, 1936, was made German chief of police with the title of Reichsführer. Nominally under the Ministry of the Interior, Germany’s police forces now were unified under Himmler as head of both the SS and the Gestapo.

Translated as "order police", Ordnungspolizei referred to uniformed police units formed by an act of the German Interior Ministry in the summer of 1936. The act decreed that the regular German police forces were to be absorbed into the SS, which would then incorporate all local, state, and national level law enforcement agencies.

The police were divided into the Ordnungspolizei (Orpo or regular police) and the Sicherheitspolizei (Sipo or security police). The Orpo assumed duties of regular uniformed law enforcement while the Sipo consisted of the secret state police Geheime-Staatspolizei or Gestapo and criminal investigation police Kriminalpolizei or Kripo. The Gestapo was a corps of professional detectives involved in political police duties and the task of the Kriminalpolizei was fighting crime. On September 1939, the Sipo was combined with the secret service of the SS Sicherheitsdienst (SD) into the Main Office for Security of the Reich the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA). RSHA symbolize the narrow connection between SS (party organization) and police (state organization).

This battlefield pickup comes with an all matching P08, a second  magazine, a dated 1941 Holster,  a loading tool, a period belt and buckle from the infamous SS  (Schutzstaffel) , all in minty condition.    Any questions to josef@phoenixinvestmentarms.com.
