Adolph Hitler said of his Youth : "The weak must be chiseled away. I want young men and women who can suffer pain. A young German must be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp's steel."

The Hitler Youth (German: Hitler-Jugend , abbreviated HJ) was a paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party. It existed from 1922 to 1945. The HJ was the second oldest paramilitary Nazi group, founded one year after its adult counterpart, the Sturmabteilung (the SA). It was made up of the Hitlerjugend proper, for male youth ages 14–18; the younger boys' section Deutsches Jungvolk for ages 10–14; and the girls' section Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM, the League of German Girls).

1936 was the last year that Mauser used the traditional straw bluing on the small parts.  Wartime production was starting up and demand required that the trigger, thumb safety, locking lever and magazine release were converted to salt blue in early 1937. There is a "V" notched rear sight and stock lug.

Mauser-Werke and Berliner-Karlsruher Industrie-Werke (BKIW), [BKIW was the successor to DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken)] had common ownership.  In 1930 the machinery, technicians and supplies were moved from Berlin-Wittenau to Oberndorf and BKIW's interest in the Parabellum ceased.

We do not authenticate knives, daggers or accouterments offered with the guns.
The Hitler Youth Knife (German: Hitler-Jugend-Fahrtenmesser) was a knife sold to and carried by boys of the paramilitary youth organization of the Nazi Party that existed from 1922 to 1945. The Hitler Youth wore knives as part of their uniform, which was very similar to the uniforms worn by the Sturmabteilung or SA. The knife was also given to those who performed exceptionally well in minor exams.

The Hitler Youth knife is mostly based on Mauser Gewehr 98 bayonets, except that it does not have a fuller (groove), and it is designed to be a dagger rather than a bayonet. Hitler Youth knives typically have an enameled swastika emblem on the obverse grip, and a Reichszeugmeisterei inscription on the blade. In early 1937, the motto Blut und Ehre! (Blood and Honor!) began to be etched on early knife blades, but this practice was abolished and later knives were produced with plain blades.

LEFT: The serial number is found in full on the barrel and frame. On the barrel is the gauge marking and on the frame is the alphabetical "suffix". Lugers were numbered 1-9999 and then 1a-9999a; so this gun is in the 170,000 numbered production for 1939 and before April!.

Hitler Youth perform in the Hour of Commemoration in front of the town hall in Tomaszow, Poland in 1941. Their flags bear the ancient Germanic Sig-Rune 'S' symbolic of victory.

"My program for educating youth is hard. Weakness must be hammered away. In my castles of the Teutonic Order a youth will grow up before which the world will tremble. I want a brutal, domineering, fearless, cruel youth. Youth must be all that. It must bear pain. There must be nothing weak and gentle about it. The free, splendid beast of prey must once again flash from its eyes...That is how I will eradicate thousands of years of human domestication...That is how I will create the New Order." -- Adolf Hitler, 1933.

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder.   We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria.

Left: Eagle 63 proof from the Mauser inspector and the drooped wing Eagle (Adler) applied until April 1939. The Nazi Eagle with the Swastika is the Army test proof that was begun in 1939 following the drooped wing eagle. Right: The barrel is marked on top with E63 and on the frame and small parts is the full serial number and the last two digits of the serial number.

Note the E/63 barrel proof and the Geladen on the extractor when n it is "Loaded".  This gave the shooter both the visible and at night the manual ability to tell when a round was in the chamber.

At Nurenberg, on October 16, 1946, sentences were handed down. Schirach got twenty years, found guilty of crimes against humanity for educating German youth in the spirit of National Socialism and subjecting them to an extensive program of Nazi propaganda.

Hitler Youth leader Baldur von Schirach was in charge of the Hitler Youth throughout the war.

The inside of the gun is clean and reflects the effort for cleaning the past 40 years. Lugers that are stored for any period of time should have the wooden grips at least waxed on the inside to protect contact with the metal. The barrel is strong and shiny.  The rear axel pin has been numbered in accordance with the 1933 order of the Reichswehrministerium published a requirement that the rear connecting pin be serial numbered to the gun to prevent the armorers from interchanging the pins.  Some times in full recoil with the hot loads when the Luger fired the pin would extend beyond the frame and could be chipped.  Mauser later solved this by putting a hump on the "ears" at the rear of the frame now referred to as the Mauser "hump".

The loading  tool is proofed with  the Eagle 63 , matching the gun as is the magazine (both) match the gun.

By 1943, Nazi leaders began turning the Hitler Youth into a military reserve to draw manpower which had been depleted due to tremendous military losses. In 1943, the 12th SS-Panzer-Division Hitlerjugend, under the command of SS-Brigadeführer Fritz Witt, was formed. The Division was a fully equipped Waffen-SS panzer division, with the majority of the enlisted cadre being drawn from Hitler Youth boys between the ages of 16 and 18. The division was deployed during the Battle of Normandy against the British and Canadian forces to the north of Caen. During the following months, the division earned itself a reputation for ferocity and fanaticism. When Witt was killed by allied naval gunfire, SS-Brigadeführer Kurt Meyer took over command and became the youngest divisional commander at age 33.

The Holster is a jewel with solid stitching, the manufacturers stamp, the Waffen Amt Stamp and the date (matching the gun).   This has been a well cared for rig by a bring back veteran and now you can continue to have custody of this battlefield history. Plus this has a chest strap which is a very difficult to find item from WWII as they were discarded by most veterans.

Here is the manufacturers cartouche and Waffen amt stamp with the matching date.

This is a piece of history with a 1939 dated S/42 Mauser, an all matching gun including the magazines in great condition. The rig consists of a 1939 dated holster, a period belt, a Hitler Jugend belt buckle, a chest strap and loading tool and a Hitler Youth knife and scabbard. Too bad this Luger can't tell us where it has been. Questions to josef@phoenixinvestmentarms.com   (This Luger, as all the others, have already been discounted for a cash sale). Call for availability, subject to over-the-counter sales. This entire battlefield Luger rig is being offered for $3,895.00 as a strong addition to anyone's collection.
